John Douglas

In Memoriam: John Douglas

On April 21, 2018, the Oxford Community Band will perform at the celebration of life service for John and Marilyn Douglas.

John Douglas was a very active, long time and much loved member of the Oxford Community Band, including being Band President for number of years. During his time with the band, John was the first chair clainetist and freely gave his time to mentor other musicians.
John had a lifelong love of music.  He sang in the college choir at Heidelberg College, where he met the woman who would be his wife of 64 years. John and Marilyn’s love of music—be it choral singing, orchestral, opera, the Oxford Community Band, or barbershop quartets–remained a constant throughout their lives together. Their love of music was shared with many
friends as well as family—and their son (John Thomas) became a renowned music director and conductor of opera theater at Temple University prior to his death in 2010.
A private family service was held in March 2018 in Union, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Dr. John Douglas to the “John T. Douglas Fund”
